It was a super-charged bunch sprint that decided the title, with Sophie Edwards (ARA Skip Capital) surging to the line to claim  the second iteration of the Lochard Energy Warrnambool Women’s Cycling Classic – one of the longest one-day road races in the world for women at 160 kilometres.

Cycling legend and multiple Grand Tour winner Chris Froome has described the Powercor Melbourne to Warrnambool as a ‘great race but brutal’, after surviving over seven hours on the bike to finish in 12th position behind winner Tristan Saunders (Team BridgeLane) in front of a huge crowd in Warrnambool.

Chris Froome’s late entry overnight in conjunction with the UCI and Israel Premier-Tech and fans will see the superstar line up for the Powercor Melbourne to Warrnambool starting at 8.00am tomorrow morning at Avalon Airport.

Victoria’s Summer of Cycling will finish with a crescendo as nearly 200 male and female riders will line up for their tilt at one of the sports oldest and grandest titles.
